The Border Reivers

The Forsters were essentially an English family that lived on the Scottish border.  There are records of a number of Forsters being caught reiving and who were hung as a result.

One of the most famous Forsters was Sir John Forster.  He served as a Warden of the English Middle March covering much of Northumberland. Sir John was very successful in his duties and was given gifts of land from the crown as a result.  He was also involved in the Redeswire Incident when representatives of both Scotland and England met on a Day of Truce to sort out their differences.  However an argument led to fighting  and several deaths occured. He received more gifts of land from the king.after helping to subdue a Catholic rebellion.

There are still many Forsters living in Northumberland.
