The Border Reivers

The name Beattie has around 8 variations including spellingsThe name actually means ‘son of Beatrice’ and derives from the Gaelic meaning ‘supplier of food’.
The Beattie clan were located on the west bank of the River Esk in Dumfriesshire, a notorious Reiver stronghold.  They were the dominant clan in the area and based next to the Douglas family though constantly at feud with them.
